About Bill
Rep. Bill Aman was first elected to the state House of Representatives in 2004 and was re-elected in 2006 and 2008. He represents the 14th District, which covers the majority of the town of South Windsor.
Rep. Aman is the Ranking Member of the legislature’s Labor and Public Employees Committee for the 2009-2010 term. In this position, he is the chief spokesman for the Republican party on all employment issues facing the General Assembly. He is currently also serving on the Planning and Development, General Law, and Judiciary Committees. He previously served on the Appropriations and Human Services Committees.
Rep. Aman obtained a B.S. in Business Administration from Ithaca College in 1968, and received his M.B.A. from Long Island University in 1972. He is a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged from the service with the rank of sergeant from the 4th Infantry Division.
Long active in his community, Rep. Aman was elected to six terms on the South Windsor Town Council and served two terms as Mayor of South Windsor. He is also a Justice of the Peace. He is a former member of South Windsor’s Economic Development Commission, Affordable Housing Task Force, Pension Committee, Capital Projects Committee, and served on the Capitol Region Council of Governments from 2001-2003.
Rep. Aman is president and owner of Wilmar Construction Company, Inc., a homebuilding company that operates primarily in the South Windsor area. Rep. Aman has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hartford County Homebuilders Association from 2003-2004 and as President of that organization from 2001-2002. His colleagues honored him with the Homebuilder of the Year Award in 2004.
One of Bill’s favorite projects as Mayor was getting the Connecticut Water Company, the Collins Family, and the Town of South Windsor together to create the duck pond park (Desmond’s Pond).
An active rugby player since college, at the age of 63 he still enjoys playing with the Connecticut Grey Rugby Football Club. Bill also raises goats, which he brings to the Strawberry Fest and Wapping Fair.
A South Windsor resident since 1974, Bill Aman and his wife Marti have two adult children, Bonnie and Jessica, who went through the South Windsor school system.
